Man installing Christmas lights in Escondido dies after being electrocuted

A man putting up Christmas lights in a San Diego County tree was electrocuted and killed Thursday, authorities said.

The man was working near the intersection of Idaho Avenue and Skyline Drive in Escondido when he was electrocuted by a power line, KNSD-TV reported.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the worker was hospitalized and died from his injuries.

The owner the man worked for told KNSD the accident happened when the worker threw Christmas lights over the power line.

“Once the SDGs&E [San Diego Gas & Electric Co.] After turning off the power, our crews were able to access the victim via the ladder truck,” Escondido Fire Battalion Chief Brian Salazar told KNSD. “He took the victim down, where he was placed in an ambulance and transported to Palomar Hospital in critical condition.”
