Man Receives Breakup Text, New iPhone AI Feature Brutally Sums It Up

An iPhone user who woke up to an unfortunate message has gone viral after his phone summarized the message in an incredibly blunt way.

Theater actor and writer Kendall Morgan, 26, lives in New York and, like millions of people, is navigating the dating scene.

But after one date, he woke up the next morning and broke things off — perhaps in a thoughtful, respectful, and gentle way, but all of that was lost in the iPhone AI summary.

Apple Intelligence is available on the iPhone 16 and some versions of the iPhone 15. According to the iPhone user guide, it is intended to help users go through their messages faster by providing summaries showing the points keys to every conversation.

But this has its downsides, as Morgan proved in a viral post on X, formerly Twitter, on November 10. News week has contacted Apple for comment.

He said News week“I would like to say that I’m surprised, and I certainly didn’t expect it to get this much attention.” But when he woke up at 6 a.m. Sunday to the message, “I thought it was the funniest thing ever, so I’m glad everyone agrees.”

Actor and writer Kendall Morgan (left) woke up to a text from a date. His iPhone summed up the message in direct terms.

In the post, which has nearly 370,000 likes, he wrote: “In case anyone was wondering, the new AI feature in iOS 18 that summarizes longer text messages works incredibly well. »

A screenshot of her @kendallwmorgan account then shows a message quickly summarized as: “I’m not feeling a romantic spark; I apologize for ending things.”

X users responded in a big way, with just one response, a simple “Oh my God,” saying it all and garnering 10,000 likes.

One X user wrote: “This is so dystopian. I hate it here,” but others were all in favor of direct messages. “Why do I feel like this would make the process easier to process?” » said one commenter.

And as another X user said: “Siri is here, dropping breakup bombs while you’re just trying to get some sleep. Wild mode on.”

But Morgan assured News week: “I was fine!

“We weren’t very serious and I was actually starting to feel the same way,” he said. “Great person, total catch. We just weren’t good enough for each other, and that’s how it goes sometimes.”

As for whether his date saw the viral post, Morgan said, “I actually sent him the screenshot of the summary, and he thought it was really funny too.

“He doesn’t really have social media, so I don’t think he saw [the viral post]but it’s gotten a little bigger than expected now, so maybe it is!”
