A Brooklyn man was slashed in the neck by an unknown assailant as he entered his Bushwick apartment building in an unprovoked attack, police said Saturday.
The 20-year-old victim was walking toward his apartment near Wyckoff and Flushing avenues around 8:30 p.m. on July 1 when a young man wearing a black hoodie and a surgical mask attacked him, police said.
The foreigner attacked the victim with a sharp object without any provocation, cutting his neck, police said.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where he is expected to survive.
Her attacker was last seen running south on Wyckoff Ave. toward Jefferson St.
No arrests have been made.
The victim told police she had never seen her attacker before and had no interaction with the stranger, who attacked her for no reason.
The attack comes as police try to curb a 5% increase in assaults across the five boroughs.
As of July 7, the NYPD had received 15,012 assault complaints citywide, 841 more than the 14,171 complaints filed during the same period last year.
Unprovoked attacks are also on the rise, with five attacks occurring in ten days in May.
On Saturday, detectives released surveillance video of the suspect in the act of killing, hoping someone will recognize him.
Anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
