A man who died after an alleged incident in Johnstone has been named locally.
Robbie McDowall, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene after police and emergency services were called to McDowall Street around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday.
A 59-year-old woman was also taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries. Her condition has been described as stable.

In the wake of his death, Robbie’s heartbroken cousin took to Facebook to pay tribute to “the best and funniest guy ever,” the Daily Record reports.
She wrote: “Can not believe this is what it has come to Robbie. You were the best and funniest guy ever. Should not have ended the way it did.
“Me and my mom and sisters are crushed but grateful for the time we spent with you. RIP because I love you xx.”

A friend commented: “So so sorry to hear this. Robbie was a brilliant guy too. Have known him since elementary school.”
Another added, “Sorry for your loss. I used to hang out with Robbie when I was younger. He was a good guy.”
And another acquaintance wrote: “RIP Robbie bridge. You were one in a million, completely shattered.”

Police confirmed last night that a 28-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the death and the serious injury.
He is due to appear in Paisley Sheriff’s Court on Saturday, June 4, 2022.
A statement issued by Police Scotland read: “A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a man in Johnstone and the serious injury to a woman. He is due to appear in Paisley Sheriff Court on Saturday, June 4, 2022.
“The incident happened around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2022 in McDowall Street, Johnstone.
“A 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 59-year-old woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries.”
