Manchester United rarely lacks talented prospects, and right now the academy is overflowing with exciting talent.
The most promising player to break out this season is prodigy Sam Mather.
Mather has been productive in creating and scoring goals for those under 18, and has even made his debut under 23 at the age of 17.
Last night, he provided an assist as England’s under-18 team beat Portugal.
Mather ran in defense from midfield before fumbling one way and passing the ball in the opposite direction so his teammate could score.
This follows on from a goal Mather scored from the edge of the box against the Netherlands last week, and an assist against Norway last month.
Mathers’ contribution was praised by his teammates at Manchester United Academy, who flocked to his Instagram page to praise his accomplishments.
These included Dan Gore, who was also part of the English U18 team that merged Portugal with Mather.
Mather has been a great watch for the academy so far this season, and has contributed at a productive pace.
The teenager has scored four goals and has delivered a team leading seven assists.
These efforts will give him even more confidence when he returns to battle for United’s academy this weekend.
United fans like what they see from the teenager and praised his latest assist …

There is so much more to come
If Mather is allowed to continue in United’s under-18s for the rest of the season, he could get some frighteningly high numbers.
He marked his first goal of the season back in August with a Cristiano Ronaldo ‘Siu’ celebration. It gave him a lot to live up to and the young winger is doing his best to prove that he is a special talent too.
The best aspect of Mathers’ performance is that he makes the players around him better, with striker Manni Norkett taking advantage of his assists, just as Joe Hugill did for the match he dropped back to under-18.
United’s under-18s return to action this weekend at 12.00 on the road in Burnley, while those under 23 visit the Derby on Friday at. 19.00
