Two women allegedly shoplifted and assaulted police officers at Merrimack Premium Outlets Saturday.

After receiving a report of a theft in progress at the Polo store around 3:45 p.m., officers located two suspects — Maryah Williams of Boston and Lasonia Watler of Brockton — inside the American Eagle store with merchandise stolen from both stores, according to a statement from the Merrimack Police Department.

After seeing police, one of the suspects allegedly tried to hide his stolen items, and both resisted arrest, authorities said.

Williams allegedly kicked an officer in the stomach and sprayed pepper spray into the officer’s eyes and into the air, affecting the other officer and others in the store. Merrimack Fire and EMS treated the officers and also provided care to American Eagle customers, the release said.

The two women were taken into custody but “continued to resist and yell obscene and racially insensitive slurs in a public place, causing a disturbance to other patrons,” the statement said.

Williams and Watler were taken to the Merrimack Police Department for processing and are now being held at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections, police said.

They are expected to appear in Merrimack District Court (9th Circuit) on Monday, authorities said.

Watler is charged with receiving stolen property, while Williams is charged with receiving stolen property, attempted second-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence, the department said. They are both charged with additional misdemeanor counts of simple assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and possession of tools to remove theft detection devices.
