MasterChef winner Simon Wood launches CHEESE fine dining restaurant in Manchester

Former MasterChef winner Simon Wood is preparing to launch Homage – a “UK first” cheese and wine restaurant in Manchester.

As the latest development from Simon’s WOOD Manchester restaurant, Homage will be located on the second floor of the chef’s acclaimed venue on Jack Rosenthal Street in the city.

The cheese and wine restaurant offers just seven tables each evening for an intimate fine dining experience, where you can taste some of the world’s finest cheeses paired with fine wines and spirits.

Described as a “casual cheese trip”, you can book specifically for the Homage fine dining room from November 18th.

Simon says the Homage restaurant (the name is a playful nod to both “home” and “fromage”, the French word for cheese) will “exemplify intimacy, yet eerie exclusivity”.

He says that although it is positioned as a unique after-dinner experience, cheese and wine lovers can book specifically for the Homage restaurant to take on a “relaxed journey of cheese courses with expertly matched chutneys, side dishes and paired wines and spirits to carry guests” through the evening “.

Cheeses that will be offered include Blue Whinnow with English quince membrillo, paired with South African Buitenverwachting Cabernet Merlot, Truffle Baron Bigod with Beluga caviar paired with d’Oliveira Moscatel and Hebridean Blue paired with Sandeman Vau Vintage Port.

There will also be Mrs Kirkham’s famous Lancashire cheese, accompanied by Ox Cheek and paired with Argentine Pulenta Estate Malbec.

All products will be sourced from local craft diaries and manufacturers, feed traders and artisans.

Homage is the third concept launched by Wood after WOOD Manchester, where he lives as Chef Patron, and his second restaurant, WoodKraft Cheltenham.

Simon said: “WOOD has defied all expectations and brought fearless fine dining to Manchester.

“We are excited to launch Homage as a complementary concept and it will be the first of its kind in the UK.

“Homage is about connecting, sitting back and enjoying time with family, friends and colleagues, whether you are quietly tasting with a friend you have not seen in years, or a business meeting over a long gate with an employee.

Opening Thursday, November 18, more information and bookings for Homage at WOOD can be found here.
