Maggie Burrows directs the play which was originally set to run at the Geffen in 2020.
Los Angeles’ Geffen Playhouse has announced the full cast for its upcoming production of Anna Ouyang Moench’s Man of God. Previews begin May 10 with opening night scheduled for May 20 and closing night set for June 19.
Starring in the show will be Shirley Chen (Beast Beast, Parenthood) as Samantha, Emma Galbraith (Inbetween Girl, good friday) as Jen, Erin Rae Li (Balloon Animal) as Mimi, Ji-young Yoo (Expats, The Sky is Everywhere) as Kyung-Hwa, and Albert Park (Vietgone, The Oldest Boy) as Pastor
The comedic feminist thriller follows four girls, who are on a mission trip to Bangkok as part of a Korean Christian girls’ youth group, as they deal with discovering a hidden camera in their hotel bathroom placed there by their pastor. As the four process and respond to the invasion in their own ways against the backdrop of the sex tourism of Bangkok, their shared rage and disillusionment lead them to take action against the always-present male gaze.
The production features direction by Maggie Burrows, as well as original music and sound design by Jonathan Snipes. The creative team also includes scenic designer Se Oh, costume designer Denitsa Bliznakova, lighting designer Lap Chi Chu, fight director Thomas Isao Morinaka, intimacy director Mia Schachter, production stage manager Elizabeth A. Brohm, and casting director Phyllis Schuringa.
Man of God, which made its world premiere in 2019 at Los Angeles’ David Henry Hwang Theater at the Union Center of the Arts, was originally scheduled as part of the Geffen’s 2019-2020 season. It was canceled just before opening in March 2020 due to the pandemic.
