Met Office issues weather warning as thunderstorms set to hit Liverpool

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Liverpool and beyond as thunderstorms are forecast. The yellow warning is in effect from 12:00 on Thursday 1 August until 23:59 the same day.

Forecasters have warned that heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Thursday and could cause disruption. This includes sea spray and flash flooding which could lead to difficult driving conditions and road closures. In the event of flooding or lightning, there is a risk of delays and cancellations to train and bus services.

The Met Office said there is a “slight likelihood” of power cuts and other services to some homes and businesses being lost. There is also a small likelihood of homes and businesses being flooded rapidly, with damage to some buildings caused by floodwater, lightning, hail or high winds. There is also a risk of rapid or deep flooding “threatening life”.

Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton and Knowsley are all affected by the weather warning. It comes after a week of hot weather, with the hottest day being Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to reach 28C in Merseyside.

The Met Office said: “Today: Dry weather in most areas with light winds and plenty of sunshine. Cloudier in parts of the north and northwest with scattered light rain affecting the far northwest, where it will also be windy. Very warm to hot in the sun.
