When Melissa Jubane, 32, didn’t show up for her morning shift at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Portland earlier this week, co-workers, friends and neighbors grew concerned because the behavior was unusual for the dedicated nurse.

They called police at 10:18 a.m. on Sept. 4 and requested a welfare check. Beaverton police officers said they arrived at Jubane’s apartment in suburban Portland a short time later.

Authorities searched the compound and ransacked her bank and credit cards, but Jubane was nowhere to be found. Her phone appeared to be turned off, police said, and attempts to reach her throughout the day were unsuccessful.

Police entered her information into the national missing persons database. After an intense three-day investigation, police determined that 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert was involved in her disappearance. Schubert lives in Beaverton and is Jubane’s neighbor in their apartment complex.

Police said they arrested Schubert and charged him with murder.

According to online reports, Schubert is being held in the Washington County Jail in Oregon on a charge of second-degree murder. Police have not provided further details about Schubert’s involvement in Jubane’s death.

Jubane’s remains have been found. The investigation is ongoing.
