Mother of murdered sisters tried to commit suicide after police who took pictures of bodies released from jail early

The mother of two murdered sisters has revealed she attempted suicide after police who photographed their bodies and shared them on WhatsApp were released from prison.

Nicole Smallman, 27, and Bibaa Henry, 46, were murdered by Danyal Hussein while celebrating a birthday with a picnic in Wembley Park in June 2020.

Their mother, Mina Smallman, said she felt “hatred” towards the two Metropolitan Police officers who took pictures of her daughters “for their own amusement” while they were protecting the crime scene.

Deniz Jaffer, 49, and Jamie Lewis, 34, both pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office but later appealed their sentences and were released early.

Ms Smallman told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that it was their early release that prompted her to attempt suicide.

“I knew they were going to come out [of prison] but the whole trauma of their journey and the aftermath of when they appealed and asked to be sent to an open prison… The journey just kept coming and going, over and over and over and over again,” she said.
