My son’s boss was an asshole when he left the company

I saw your response regarding the person wanting to reapply at their old company. My son left his job for a more prestigious position at a larger company, but it’s a hectic and dysfunctional office. His former employer didn’t speak to him the week before he left – he didn’t even say goodbye. He wants to return to the company. Could he do this?

This sounds like a very mature boss. I mean, seriously, unless your son left on bad terms, misled his boss in some way, or did something to give him a reason for his cold departure, the boss should accept that people are free agents and must follow their journey.

It seems unlikely that the door will be open for a return, but he will only be sure if he knocks. Tell him to reach out, express that he feels he made a mistake and would like to come back if the opportunity presents itself.

The worst they can do is say no or stay silent. So it’s worth a try.
