New York Weather: Heavy rain causes flooding in parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut

NEW YORK (WABC) – Heavy rains overnight caused flooding on roads and low-lying areas in parts of the Tri-State region.

Flooded areas included the Major Deegan Expressway, just south of the Cross Bronx Expressway, in the High Bridge section of the Bronx.

The flooding on the expressway started at around 1 am Tuesday.

By 3 am crews had to close all southbound lanes. They remained closed several hours later.

The northbound lanes were passable, but the right lane was flooded.

Video from the scene showed a number of stranded vehicles on the highway.

DEP crews responded and were working to alleviate the flooding.
