New York’s New Labor Day Legacy

New York City was the first in the United States to celebrate Labor Day in 1882, and we’ve continued to advance workers’ rights ever since. Labor Day is a time to honor the historic advances workers have made in advancing rights in our workplaces, from the fight for a five-day workweek to the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, which gave workers across the country the right to overtime pay and a minimum wage.
