One of America’s hottest ZIP codes is just 30 miles from downtown Chicago, according to rankings recently released by real estate website realtor.com.
Zip code 46322 in Highland, Indiana, was ranked No. 9 on Realtor’s annual list of “America’s Hottest Zip Codes.”
“A vibrant suburb located in northwest Indiana, Highland offers a mix of residential neighborhoods and local businesses,” its listing on the rankings page states. “Highland offers easy access to Chicago, just 30 miles away, while maintaining a charming small-town feel and strong community spirit.”
The annual list highlights markets where homebuyers are shopping like crazy and making offers at record speeds because of the areas’ affordability, great amenities and other desirable attributes, according to Realtor.com.
“This year’s top 10 hottest ZIP codes highlight trends seen last year in the real estate market,” said Hannah Jones, senior economic analyst at Realtor.com. “Buyers focused on affordable Midwest and conveniently located Northeast metro areas that offer a combination of value and appeal.”
The Northeast dominates the rankings by a wide margin, with seven of the 10 municipalities. The remaining three ZIP codes, however, are in the Midwest. Gahanna, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus with a population of about 35,000, takes the top spot.
Ballwin, Missouri, a city of about 30,000 in the St. Louis metropolitan area, ranks second. Located about a half-hour from downtown, this growing community is consistently ranked among the best places to live in the state, according to Realtor.
Additionally, all three Midwest ZIP codes were also on the list in 2023.
