If you start your week with a game of Relationshipsyou are not alone, as it is The New York Times‘ the second most popular pun, after Word.
News week has compiled some tips and tricks, followed by the answers, to help you and ensure your puzzle runs smoothly.
Each Relationships the puzzle includes 16 words, which players must sort into four categories
There are different difficulty levels between the categories offered each day, the game’s publisher, Wyna Liu, previously said.
“Some categories could be defined by their use of puns – palindromes, homophones, adding or removing letters and words – rather than the literal meaning of the words on the cards. I saw three areas of potential difficulty that could be adjusted: the familiarity of the words, the ambiguity of their categorization and the variety of puns,” Liu said.
When asked what advice she could give to players, she added: “One suggestion that can help take some of the guesswork out of it is if you start selecting cards and notice that there are five or more that belong to this category, try moving to a different category before doing this.
How to play Relationships
The game separates each group of words into four categories that ultimately have themes connecting them in some way.
You select the four words that you think go together and if they are correct, they will disappear from the screen.
There are 16 words total in the game, so you do this four times to complete the game.
You can play with the board while you figure it all out, moving the words around to test your connections.
There are also different difficulty levels ranging from yellow (the easiest) to green, blue and finally purple.
You will only know the color of a group once its words have been correctly connected.
Up to four errors are allowed before finally “losing”.
