Officer shoots at vehicle during traffic stop, police say

An officer opened fire during a traffic stop on a vehicle wanted in connection with a homicide in the New City neighborhood Friday night, Chicago police said.

Chicago police attempted to stop a vehicle wanted in connection with a homicide in the 1700 block of West 47th Street around 5:35 p.m. Friday. An officer fired his weapon and struck the vehicle, but no one was hit by the gunfire, police said.

The suspect fled but was taken into custody and the officer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The details — including a use-of-force investigation — are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, police said, and all officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for at least 30 days.
