The latest twist on a Cadbury’s classic – the Twirl – sees a caramel flavour wrapped into the layers of milk chocolate. The limited edition chocolate bar hit stores nationwide this week.
But despite incredible levels of excitement, for many chocolate lovers, the Caramel Twirl fails to live up to the hype. Many say they prefer the original Twirl or the Orange Twirl, both of which are still available.
Of course, we had to try it for ourselves. We had no trouble getting hold of the 43g bar from Home Bargains, where it was on sale for 69p.

In our opinion, with Twirl being a “god tier” chocolate bar, it would take something truly special to improve on it. Part of the Twirl’s appeal is the lightness of the chocolate ribbons, but the Caramel Twirl seems a little more solid, and sticks to your teeth a bit.
The caramel flavour is a good strength – neither too subtle nor too overpowering – but bars that contain artificial flavours are never going to match those that contain the real deal. Our conclusion is that the Caramel Twirl is a worthy novelty and it certainly deserves a try, but the original remains the best.
The reaction on social media has been mixed, with more negative comments than we expected to see. “It is amazing,” said one fan. “Yummy,” said another. “Way better than any Orange Twirl,” said a third.
“If only it was actually caramel like Wispa Gold and not just flavoured then this would be more epic,” said someone. “If they’re going to put caramel in a Twirl, I want it running through the gaps, not a synthetic flavour,” someone agreed.
“This is okay, nothing bad, nothing amazing,” said someone else, while another said, “Think I will have to stick to the original.” Somebody wrote: “We were so hoping for these to be as good as the Orange Twirl… Unfortunately, this one is properly meh… Pleasant enough but it isn’t really blowing us away.”
“Foul,” one person said, adding, “Such a fake flavour.” Another said they love caramel chocolate but “these were diabolical, I wouldn’t buy them again.”
Somebody else said: “I’m waiting for a peanut butter Twirl.”
