The parents of three children who died in an east London house fire have paid tribute to them, saying they were “loved beyond words and missed beyond measure”.

The children who died after the East Ham fire on July 13 were identified by police on Friday as Nakash Malik, 13, Aayat Malik, 11, and Muhammad Hanan Malik, seven.

Their parents, Khurram Malik and Naumana Gul Khan, said: “Your lives have been a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and greatly missed. May you rest in peace in God’s heaven.”

The fire damaged the ground floor and half of the first floor of the terraced house on Napier Road.

The Metropolitan Police said it was continuing to investigate the cause of the fire, in conjunction with the London Fire Brigade, and that at this stage there was no indication of suspicious circumstances.

One of the children died at the scene of the fire, while the other two died in hospital.

Two adults and another child present on the property, all believed to be from the same family, were admitted to hospital.

A neighbour said he threw bricks to try to break the windows to help the family escape. Shah, 37, said: “Someone threw the big brick, the whole brick, at the window but couldn’t break it. And the half brick, which I’m holding in my hand, I threw it… to help the family because the mother – she was near the window.”

“The father came through the roof. After five or ten minutes, we saw the children coming around the corner. We saw the police running in and giving them CPR.”
