Victim Bettie Etienne, 37, died from her injuries, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s office said.
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed while crossing the street in Brockton early Tuesday morning, prosecutors said.
Brockton police received a 911 call around 6:23 a.m. Dec. 3 reporting a vehicle had struck a pedestrian at the intersection of North Main and Battles streets. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s office released a statement.
When police arrived at the crash scene, Cruz’s office said they found a woman in the road. The release said first responders took the victim to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that day.
Cruz’s office identified the victim as Bettie Etienne, 37, a Brockton resident.
A preliminary investigation by state police detectives revealed that Etienne was crossing North Main Street when a driver of a Dodge Caravan struck her, Cruz’s office said. Additionally, Cruz’s office said security footage of the incident showed the traffic light was green and a red hand was on the pedestrian control signal.
Cruz’s office said the driver of the Dodge Caravan, a 20-year-old man, remained at the scene. An investigation into the accident is underway, the release said.
