‘Perfect midfielder’ Jude Bellingham told big reason he should choose Man Utd move over Liverpool
Owen Hargreaves has made a big hint about Jude Bellingham rejecting Liverpool in favour of a Manchester United switch.
Bellingham left England in summer 2020 by joining Borussia Dortmund from Birmingham City. As per BBC Sport, the move was worth around £30million including add-ons.
The central midfielder has been a huge hit since arriving at the Westfalenstadion. He is a regular in the Dortmund first team and has made 97 appearances for the club, registering 12 goals and 19 assists.
Bellingham formed a great relationship with Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland during their spells at Dortmund. Sancho went on to join Manchester United last summer, while Haaland linked up with Manchester City in July.
Bellingham remains in Germany, and is still shining too. He got on the scoresheet in their 3-0 victory over Copenhagen in the Champions League last night.
The Englishman played a nice one-two with Giovanni Reyna before finishing into the bottom corner for Dortmund’s third and final goal.
Reports put Liverpool at the front of the queue to land Bellingham next summer. He could cost more than £100m, but the Reds are willing to spend big to make him the centrepiece of their midfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s team has just been bolstered by the arrival of Arthur, on loan from Juventus. But pundit Noel Whelan thinks this is just a temporary fix, as Liverpool are ‘closing in’ on Bellingham’s signature ready for next year.
Owen Hargreaves delivers Jude Bellingham verdict
Following Bellingham’s goal against Copenhagen on Tuesday, Hargreaves was asked about the 19-year-old and where he could end up.
The former midfielder thinks he could join Manchester United over Liverpool to help Erik ten Hag with his project, which is focused on getting the Red Devils back to the summit of the Premier League.
“He could turn around a club like Manchester United,” Hargreaves said on BT Sport (via HITC). “Get them back to the top.
“He could carry that with his mentality. Perfect midfielder. Can play for any club. Everyone will want him – Chelsea, Liverpool, United.”
Hargreaves is right about Bellingham being the ‘perfect midfielder’. He is still a fledgling player but can already score goals, find brilliant passes and defend well.
Bellingham has won over England boss Gareth Southgate and is on 15 caps for the Three Lions. He could end up reaching Wayne Rooney’s outfield record, which stands at 120 appearances.
Many fans of Prem teams will keep a keen eye on where Bellingham ends up going. Liverpool have had far more success than Man Utd in recent years, which could tip the scales in their favour.
Man Utd may be attractive for Bellingham
But there is also the prospect of becoming a star at Old Trafford and helping to take Man Utd back to their former glory. They appear to be on the right path under Ten Hag, after winning all of their last four league matches, and Bellingham could be the final piece of the puzzle.
As mentioned earlier though, the Birmingham City academy graduate won’t come cheap. His Dortmund contract runs until June 2025, which puts the Bundesliga side in a strong negotiating position. There are rumours about a possible extension, too.
Dortmund rate Bellingham at far more than £100m. But as shown by the moves of Sancho and Haaland, the midfielder could end up leaving for less than their valuation.
Jude Bellingham has a big choice on his hands as he looks to take the correct next step in his career. But it is a brilliant decision to have to make, deciding between two of football’s most illustrious clubs.
