Labor Day weekend and the unofficial end of summer have arrived, and Chicago area residents will be able to enjoy a pleasant Saturday before getting a taste of the season ahead.
Mid-morning temperatures will be in the 60s and 65s across much of the region, with temperatures expected to rise steadily through the late afternoon, when highs of 80 to 85 degrees will be reached.
These beautiful conditions are accompanied by abundant sunshine and light winds coming from the west-northwest at a speed of 5 to 10 miles per hour.
Temperatures are likely to drop back to around 60 degrees overnight, with skies remaining clear and light winds expected overnight.
While a generally pleasant weekend is expected in the Chicago area, those hoping to get in one last swim of the season should aim to do so on Saturday, given the dangerous swimming conditions in Lake Michigan forecast for Sunday and Monday.
Skies will be mostly sunny on Sunday, but will be accompanied by noticeably cooler temperatures and very windy conditions, with northeast winds gusting 15 to 25 miles per hour.
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 21°C tomorrow, with similar conditions through Monday. Both days will be characterised by minimum night temperatures between 10°C and 15°C.
Temperatures will warm slightly again over the coming week, with highs expected around 80 degrees ahead of a system that could bring rain and cooler temperatures late next week.
