Police block street to ‘search vacant lot’ near fatal shooting scene

A residential street has been partially sealed off this evening, close to the scene of yesterday’s fatal shooting in Kirkby. St Pauls Close, just off Domingo Drive, is a short drive from Quarryside Drive, where Rikki Berry, 36, was fatally shot shortly after 6.30pm on July 17. It is not yet known whether the two scenes are linked, but Merseyside Police have been contacted for comment.

When the ECHO arrived at St Pauls Close at around 6.45pm, there were two police cars on scene, with officers guarding the cordon, which was set up just behind a row of terraced houses. Inside the cordon was a stretch of overgrown wasteland, where other officers appeared to be searching for something.

According to neighbours, police arrived at the scene around 5pm and immediately began searching the vacant lot. One woman said she saw “four or five police cars” arrive, with officers “carrying bags”. She added: “There were a few of them searching the vacant lot.”

Another neighbour said: “The wasteland is behind the old social club. People throw all their rubbish there, it’s full of rubbish.”
