Police have launched a search for a prisoner who escaped from a London hospital after being taken ill from Wormwood Scrubs prison.
Scotland Yard is “working to locate” Graham Gomm, 63, who is believed to have escaped from Hammersmith Hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Gomm was being held on remand for burglary offences at the Category B men’s prison in the west of the capital.
The Metropolitan Police were alerted at 1.18am on Thursday to Gomm’s escape. He was last seen wearing a grey T-shirt and grey tracksuit, and did not appear to pose a threat to the public.
“Investigators are also concerned for Gomm’s well-being as he was receiving medical treatment prior to his escape. There is no evidence to suggest that Gomm poses a threat to the public,” police said.
A Prison Service spokesman said: “We are working urgently with the Metropolitan Police to capture this prisoner and investigate how he was able to escape from the hospital.”
Police are understood to be carrying out searches, conducting video checks and have visited several addresses linked to Gomm. The public has been warned not to approach him but to call 999.
