Queens Cat Owner Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Drown Two Kittens

A cat owner who allegedly tried to drown two kittens in Rockaway Beach — claiming he was just cleaning up their “poop” — has been charged with animal cruelty, the Queens District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.

Wesley Dahlman, 21, was charged with torturing and injuring kittens after a witness called 911 saying he saw Dahlman repeatedly submerge a gray cat carrier in the water near Beach 62nd Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard around 5 p.m. Monday, according to the prosecutor’s complaint.

When officers arrived, they saw Dahlman in the water and the kittens on the sand, according to the complaint.

“Yes, the cats are mine, I rescued them,” Dahlman told authorities, according to the complaint. “The cats were covered in feces and I was cleaning them in the ocean.”

It is not known whether the kittens were injured during the watering,

On Wednesday, the Queens District Attorney’s Office charged Dahlman with attempted cruelty. He was arraigned and ordered to return to court in October.
