A step forward in a doomed assault on the oppressed

Castlebar, Ireland: The arrogance of war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu and his cronies in Israel in declaring UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres persona non grata, followed by an instruction to Irish peacekeeping troops in Lebanon to moving their positions, is mind-boggling.

Israel is guilty of genocide and domicide in Gaza. Gaza health authorities report that more than 40,000 people have been killed. The Lancet estimates the figure, including indirect deaths, at more than 180,000. I believe this figure is closer to the true figure if we take into account the bodies buried in the collapsed buildings. The unfortunates whom the Israelis do not kill in the bombings starve to death by preventing thousands of trucks loaded with food and medicine from entering Gaza.

It took us Irish 800 years to free ourselves from the English yoke. The Palestinians are trying to do the same to the Israelis. I am convinced that the Zionists control the American administration. Self-confessed Zionist President Biden is not alone. US lawmakers applauded and cheered everything Netanyahu said when he addressed Congress, even as his forces massacred newborns, women, children and defenseless men hourly.

The Vietnam War should have taught that men who defend their country, and who are prepared to sacrifice their lives, are dangerous enemies and very difficult to defeat. Palestinian fighters are no different. Hamas and Hezbollah fired 9,000 missiles at Israel. Each of Iron Dome’s Patriot missiles costs $4 million. This means that the American taxpayer has paid billions. This is just one item, so think carefully when you vote. John Fair

Raw realities

Dover, Del. : Why are Palestine called the occupied territories? Is it because invading forces are rushing at all inhabitants without any repercussions from the so-called free nations who claim to defend democracy and freedom for all? When will Bibi the butcher be arrested for the greatest war crimes? Through its constant bombing of Gaza, the IDF has not only killed women and children, but also the majority of hostages held. Peace to all. Chalky white

Specialization in embezzlement

Brooklyn: Pro-Hamas and pro-Palestinian students cannot be considered students: students use logic, study history and use common sense. A roll of toilet paper is worth more than the college degrees of these so-called students. Rob Weissbard

Alignment error

Monmouth Beach, NJ: Spokesman Donald Ziminski, in a very right-wing manner, correlates the modern Democratic Party with erstwhile Southern slave owners, while promoting the false narrative that the modern Republican Party , today MAGA, continues to espouse the ideological narrative of the Republicans led by Lincoln. Pure slander of the highest order. It appears to me that the current bearers of Confederate flags, as well as Nazi flags, are people aligned with the Republican-MAGA Trump movement. Correct me if I’m wrong and the news videos I’ve seen of these reprehensible displays of white supremacy by Republican MAGA supporters are not trustworthy. David W. Kay

Encouragement of humor

Bronx: Erma Bombeck and Mark Twain went to heaven. Dave Barry and “I Love Lucy” are now silent. Most of the great and funny newspaper comic strips have had and ended their days. Disney films become social commentary and TV sitcom writers are exhausted. We only have two and a half weeks left before elections in the United States which promise to be unpleasant and stupid. We need humor or just clean, uplifting fun to endure our 24-hour days of hearing about stabbings, murders, corruption and massacres in schools and abroad. We have had enough of the nasty comments from the orange candidate and his party. One solution I can think of so that we can endure the follies and misfortunes of humanity is to award a Nobel Prize for peace (and calm) to humor. Although it may be small and measly in money, it is significant in terms of prestige and people may want to earn it. Rose Marie Lancaster

Best wishes

Camden, NJ: Today, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris celebrates her 60th birthday. As a man raised by my single mother, raised by my grandmother, and mentored by a multitude of aunts and other women in my community, I can easily relate to issues concerning women. Traditionally in our country, in October we recognize breast cancer awareness. In her application, Harris spoke of her personal experience in her mother’s quest to combat the disease, to which she succumbed. I thank Harris for campaigning on common and real issues. Happy birthday, Madam Vice President! Wayne E. Williams

Extensive experience

Staten Island: In the voice of Sandra Weiss: It is your point of view that is distorted by Donald Trump’s lies. Kamala Harris has national experience: vice president, senator, district attorney of San Francisco and attorney general of California. And global experience: traveling to more than 19 countries and meeting more than 150 world leaders. She and President Biden worked to create record numbers of jobs, keep unemployment low, and create more small businesses over a two-year period than any previous administration. In fact, she took classes and earned her degrees at Howard University and the University of California Law School, while dad Trump’s donation to Wharton Business School allowed her son to obtain a diploma despite the fact that he rarely attended classes – what a cheat, what a fake! Eileen Zanelli

Do this

Belvidere, New Jersey: The quote attributed to Albert Einstein that it is crazy to do the same thing over and over and expect different results seems appropriate when considering the prospects of electing Donald Trump for a second term after having witnessed his incompetence in attempting to govern and the divisions left in his wake after his first term. That alone would have indicated the need to nominate at least one different candidate, but given that that hasn’t happened, it seems like it’s certainly time for a change. Steve German

Sullied evening

Brooklyn: I suggest that Cardinal Dolan owes an apology to those who attended and watched the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation dinner this year for allowing Donald Trump to turn the charity event into a campaign rally. Trump’s remarks were completely inappropriate. Even his version of humor was sometimes vicious. Rather than recognizing the foundation’s legacy, the dinner became a vehicle for his typical narcissistic remarks and attacks on his opponent. Kamala Harris was indeed smart not to be there. Ed Jaworski

Exchange unpleasantness

Henderson, Nevada: Al Smith’s dinner party has become too politically correct. Liberals believe Trump’s comments were mean. Yet Hillary Clinton hits Trump and liberals rejoice? It’s good that Trump likes to be seen. David Tulanian

First of all

Bayside: Kudos to voice actor Lee Rottenberg for his rebuke of the seriously flawed City of Yes initiative. He was 100% right in his letter. However, he left out another glaring problem: nowhere does the plan talk about upgrading dilapidated infrastructure (electricity, sewers, etc.) because the mayor and his team have already stated that these things are not on the agenda. table. The five boroughs are already saturated with an abundance of people putting a strain on these old and decrepit resources. Go back to the original City of Yes plan until improvements are made to the boroughs first! Karen Sabatini

Profit from non-profit organizations

Brooklyn: As someone who has been involved in New York’s homelessness issue for some 20 years, both in government and in non-profit organizations, I was disgusted to read your article on the findings of the Department of Investigation of Homeless Shelter Operators (“DOI: Corruption and Nepotism Common at Nonprofit Shelters,” Oct. 18). Shockingly, 13 executives made over $500,000 a year and five executives made over $700,000! Considering that the mayor earns $258,750 per year, these results are even more shocking. It is time to create the Department of Homeless Services as an independent agency, which was done in 1993. However, it has been reintegrated into the behemoth known as the Department of Human Services. DHS must be independent and staffed with sufficient auditors and monitors to detect this corruption.
