Manchester United lose transfer race for Aurelien Tchouameni as Real Madrid switch is “nourishing”
According to the Spanish publication AS (h / t The Sun), Manchester United have apparently lost the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, as a Real Madrid switch is “nourishing” after concluding a transfer agreement. This news would undoubtedly be a massive blow to the English club as they are desperate for some additions in the role of midfielder this summer.
Tchouameni is set to leave AS Monaco in the summer transfer window. They have already confirmed that he will be allowed to travel if that is his intention, which seems to be the case now. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the midfielder has his eyes set on moving to the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of next season.
Man United were interested in signing the French national team player when Erik ten Hag had named Tchouameni as his priority goal. However, it is stated that Real are close to reaching a full agreement with Monaco after agreeing to pay 68 million pounds for the midfielder’s signature. Paris Saint-Germain were in the mix, but they failed in their attempts despite offering a larger salary package.
Man Utd must look elsewhere!
It seems that this information is, after all, true, as Romano has confirmed this update in another tweet on its official handle. In fact, he has also given further news that personal terms have been agreed between Tchouameni’s agent and the Madrid-based club already before the Champions League final.
In such a case, it seems that the Manchester team has, after all, lost this transfer match. Winning the match would still have been very difficult due to our current situation compared to the other interested parties. People like Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal were also associated with the Frenchman, but they are also in a similar boat as now.
Unless something drastic happens, it would not be wise on the part of the Red Devils to continue to pursue the 22-year-old going forward. Strengthening the defensive midfield area is quite important, so it’s understandable why ten Hag was keen to get hold of Tchouameni, who is without a doubt the best young defensive midfielder right now.
Nemanja Matic is our only natural team option in the squad and he is leaving Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer. It puts into perspective how serious the situation is, so we have to look elsewhere and find a solution to this problem ahead of the next campaign.
Then again, the Mancunians should have picked up a high-quality defensive midfielder last summer, as the problems were highlighted even before then. But surprisingly, the board did not choose to reinforce the area leading to our current situation.

That being said, there is still hope that management will get things done and resolve their mistakes by backing up ten Hag this summer. Attracting top players would be difficult without Champions League football, which means we may have to search the market for sensible opportunities that would jump at the chance of joining our club.
