Transfer news: Real Madrid choose not to buy Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba
According to Marca (h / t Daily Mail), the Spanish giant Real Madrid has chosen not to switch to Manchester United star Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window in 2022.
The French national team player is one of the world’s best footballers when he’s singing. But little of it has been on consistent shows at Old Trafford. This has led to a lot of frustration, and Pogba’s signature can be considered pretty much an overwhelming one.
He has only months left on his current deal and could potentially leave the club for free at the end of the season. Doing so would be a cruel way to repay the Red Devils, who at the time made a world record fee for signing him in 2016.
As things stand, it is still unclear whether Pogba sees a future for himself at the Theater of Dreams. With Rangnick set to take over until the end of the campaign, Man United will have a true visionary with responsibility for the immediate future. Exactly what influence it may have on Pogba’s decision is still unknown.
Long associated with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, Pogba could potentially have considered the move as an option. Real, however, has other ideas and apparently focuses their attention elsewhere.
The Spaniards believe that the Frenchman will not fit into the club and they are better placed to strengthen other positions. It says something given that he can be signed on a free when his contract at Old Trafford expires. That Real would pass on one of the world’s best midfielders in the prime of his career says a lot.
Not worth the hassle?
While the La Liga giants recognize his talents, they seem to be happy with the midfield opportunities they already have available. The trio Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro are not getting younger, but are still packing a punch.
After signing a contract with Eduardo Camavinga last summer, it can be argued that Real are already planning for the future. With Federico Valverde and Antonio Blanco also in the mix, perhaps The White have the right idea.
What exactly that means for Manchester United is still unknown. Pogba is an excellent player, but the drama he and his agent, Mino Raiola, cause also makes him a great maintenance asset. After enjoying more misses than hits in red, it may be time for both parties to move on.
More Manchester United news
Whether Pogba decides to stay or not, Man United will do well to bring in one or two more dynamic midfielders in the upcoming transfer windows. Nemanja Matic is not getting any younger, while Fred and Scott McTominay could no doubt use a serious competition for the start.
Even Bruno Fernandes has proven to be a mortal in recent weeks. The red devils will be advised to add strength in depth instead of putting all their eggs in one basket. Somehow, it’s time for us to tackle it.
