Jamie Fernandes was killed in the crash on the M62 in Warrington alongside fellow Ryanair pilot Matt Greenhalgh.
Today a tribute was paid to Jamie, 24, remembering his time at the Bolton school.
A statement posted on the official Bolton School – Alumni and Former Students Facebook page (official) read: “We are very saddened to hear the news of the tragic passing of our former student Jamie Fernandes this week.
“He was a keen hockey player during his school days and we were delighted to see him fulfil his ambition of becoming a pilot. Our thoughts are with his family and all his friends.
“If @BoltonSchAlumni finds it useful to share memories here, we will gather them together for the family. If you would like to do this in a less public way, please email development@boltonschool.org.uk.”
Jamie studied Mathematics with Statistics, English Language and Geography for his A Levels, before going on to study Air Transport Management with training as an airline pilot at Buckinghamshire New University.
Matt, 28, was a captain and Jamie a first officer with Ryanair. They were travelling to Liverpool Airport in a taxi when the crash happened shortly after 5.30am.
THE The car collided with two trucks on the westbound carriageway between junction 8 at Burtonwood and junction 7.
Both men died on the spot. Their families are being cared for by specialist officers.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains hospitalized.
The driver of one of the two trucks, a 61-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Many people have left tributes to Jamie on social media.
Ishan Patel wrote: “Jamie, you were not only my best friend but also my brother. I can’t believe you were taken from me.
“You were full of life and happiness. You were a hard worker and always cared about others.
“I talked to you and made arrangements for you to come to my house next month, and now it will never happen.
“You always supported me, you always called me to check on me, and I will never repay you. I will miss you forever, my brother. I hope you rest in peace.”
“My heart is broken. You were a good man. Your last words on Saturday were, ‘I’ll see you soon, Goose.’ I hope one day we meet again, Goose. I love you and rest in peace.”
Michelle Orrell posted: “Jamie Fernandes, you came into our lives for a short time with a kind soul and a caring heart.
“It’s heartbreaking to read the news, too young to leave us with such an exciting life ahead of you.
“Rest in peace, our thoughts are with the family in these difficult times.”
Ryanair’s Jayne Smith posted: “This is absolutely devastating RIP Matthew Greenhalgh and Jamie Fernandes guys fly high XXXX.”
