Sadiq announces a huge range of winter light displays in London

A free Northern Lights-inspired illuminated spectacular has just been announced by London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The exhibition ‘Borealis’, by artist Dan Archer, will recreate the Northern Lights over the City of London from Guildhall Yard. It runs from 11 to 22 December, with free tickets available online from today (Wednesday 17 November).

‘Borealis’, in turn, is part of ‘Winter Lights’, a city-wide celebration of lighting, and part of Mayor Sadiq’s domestic tourism effort, Let’s Do London.

Other illuminated attractions will include an animal-themed winter light exhibition at the Tower of London and the free Canary Wharf Winter Lights Spectacular, which will feature 20 new lighting commissions from artists from around the globe, plus an ice rink and outdoor food market.

Thousands of illuminated white roses will be placed in Grosvenor Square as part of an Ever After Garden exhibition by fashion designer Anya Hindmarch, while the ongoing ‘Illuminated River’ brings light and color to nine of London’s bridges and is set to be the longest public art project in the world. Finally, a commission by Hetain Patel will use Piccadilly Lights to explore immigration. and identity.
