Many people can’t resist a delicious piece of cheese and the same is certainly true for dogs.
To test his St. Bernards’ resolve, a Clayton, North Carolina, owner hosted a cheese picnic in his living room. The dogs’ reactions did not disappoint.
In the hilarious clip, shared to TikTok in June under the username baby.and.bruce, the poster can be seen laying out a blanket for her picnic in her living room.
Sitting with a banana and a few slices of cheese on a plate, he begins to nibble, saying, “This is the best cheese I’ve ever eaten,” and soon attracts the attention of his two large pets.
Unable to resist this tasty treat, the dogs break into his picnic and steal the cheese.
“Cheese was a trigger word for them,” the video’s author wrote in the caption. But is it a treat you can safely share with your furry friends?
Is it safe to give cheese to dogs?
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), cheese is not only a delicious snack for dogs, it’s also a great training tool, especially for puppies.
Although cheese is not toxic to dogs, some puppies are lactose intolerant, so it is best to only give cheese to dogs in moderation.
The AKC stresses that when giving your dog cheese, make sure it doesn’t contain things like garlic, onion, and chives. It’s also important to avoid giving your dog high-fat cheeses, as this can lead to conditions like obesity and pancreatitis.
“It’s best to give your dog low-fat cheeses, such as mozzarella, cottage cheese, or soft goat cheese. Cottage cheese is lower in fat and sodium than other cheeses, which helps reduce the risk of obesity,” the website explains.
The video quickly went viral on TikTok. At the time of writing, it had been viewed more than 317,000 times and received 19,900 likes on the platform.
One user, Morgan Bray, commented: “The way they both looked need to pay that cheese tax.”
Octoscorp4 said: “I would hug them all day, in between snacks of course.”
Venetiaferretti1 added: “Oh, these are so adorable. Cheese made them. How can you say no to these faces?”
