SAN FRANCISCO — After a torrid July, Tyler Fitzgerald was recognized Saturday with National League Rookie of the Month honors.
The 26-year-old shortstop hit .321 (17-for-53) with eight homers, two doubles, a triple, 15 RBIs and 13 runs scored, leading National League rookies in batting average, home runs and on-base percentage, while ranking in the top five in RBIs, slugging percentage, triples, runs scored and walks.
Fitzgerald, a fourth-round draft pick out of Louisville in 2020, became the first Giants rookie to earn the honor since Luis Gonzalez in May 2022.
He only continued his hot streak since August, contributing three hits and his 10th home run of the season in Friday’s 3-0 win over the Reds on Blake Snell’s no-hitter.
