Scotland’s 32 municipal areas with the highest and lowest Covid rates as the Omicron variant found

Coronavirus is still raging in Scotland as the situation in the country’s 32 local authorities has been revealed.

Public Health Scotland provides a complete breakdown of infection rates across each area per. 100,000 of the population – with Falkirk currently at the top of the list.

That comes as six cases of the new Covid-19 Omicron variant have been identified in Scotland.

The Scottish Government has confirmed that four people have the variant in the Lanarkshire area, while a further two have been identified in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board.

Researchers have sounded the alarm over the strain, which is thought to be more transmissible than previous version variants and could avoid current vaccinations.

Nicola Sturgeon is set to hold an emergency briefing today after the new cases were discovered, sparking fears of tightening restrictions.
