Fights continue to rage at NFL training camps, and Wednesday’s practice against the Seattle Seahawks was a very violent one. It’s unfortunately normal for teams to get involved in scrums during practice, but the Seahawks took things to the next level when a helmet was thrown.

During a segment for NFL Network, the hosts were sitting around discussing Seahawks training camp when a massive brawl broke out behind them. What’s barely shown is a moment when wide receiver DK Metcalf swung a helmet at cornerback Tre Brown.
Multiple reports indicate that Metcalf picked up Brown’s helmet and threw it.
The incident between Metcalf and Brown was not the first fight, nor would it be the last.
According to a report from ESPN, the fight broke out when wide receiver Jake Bobo and Brown got into a fistfight. Bobo then ripped off his helmet and was punched in the nose. The blow caused Bobo to bleed.
Moments later, a hard hit by linebacker Tyrel Dodson on running back Ken Walker III led to a scuffle between Dodson and tight end Pharaoh Brown.
The fight between Metcalf and Brown was the third of the day, forcing coach Mike Macdonald to stop the music and practice to talk to his players about the constant brawling. Even after they were lectured, more fights continued.
Edge rusher Derick Hall and guard Christian Haynes were the worst of them, as both players were ejected after getting into their own fight.
Macdonald spoke to NFL Network after the chaos that followed the day.
“We played our hearts out,” Macdonald said after the game during an appearance on NFL Network. “I’m proud of the way we responded today. We came out and we were ready to practice. I don’t know what the numbers are, but we’ve been here, I don’t know, 14 of the last 16 days. I think we’re tired of playing each other, but guys are motivated. We had a great practice and we’re looking forward to Saturday.”
The odd thing is that Macdonald said he was proud of how the team responded. It’s unclear whether he’s proud of the fighting or how the team eventually stopped fighting.

Training camp fights are an unnecessary risk that players put themselves in. While Metcalf didn’t cause any damage with his helmet hit, things could have been worse.
The Seahawks are scheduled to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday in their first preseason game of 2024. Hopefully, no fights will take place then.
