Authorities in northwest Indiana conducted an “extensive search” Saturday afternoon for the person wanted for stabbing a teenage girl in the hand on a baseball field.
The incident happened on the Lowell baseball fields behind VFW Post 6841, 17401 Morse St., according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. A “dark-skinned, long-haired male” stabbed a 14-year-old girl before being chased into the woods, sheriff’s officials said.
Sheriff’s patrols, detectives, the department’s K-9 dogs and aviation units were working with several surrounding law enforcement agencies to search for the suspect. The alleged assailant may be in the company of other men and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.
Residents in the area were asked to lock their homes and vehicles and report any suspicious activity to police. Anyone who sees the suspect was asked to call 911 immediately.
