New York-born cult favorite Shake Shack has opened its third restaurant in San Jose.
The burger shop, which is part of the Westgate Center but is located in a freestanding building along Saratoga Avenue, began serving customers today. The other two Shakes are located in the Westfield Valley Fair and Westfield Oakridge shopping centers.
The fast-casual restaurant was founded as a hot dog cart in a New York City park, but quickly became known for its all-natural Angus beef burgers. However, there’s still an all-natural Viennese beef “flat dog” on the menu, as well as cage-free chicken sandwiches, crinkle fries and hand-spun milkshakes.
Menu highlights include the Black Truffle Burger and Black Truffle Mushrooms, limited-time offerings with Gruyère cheese, black truffle sauce made with black truffle oil and crispy onions; the Golden State Double, a double cheddar cheeseburger topped with garlic aioli created for California restaurants; and three seasonal shakes, peaches and cream, strawberry frosted donut and salted chocolate caramel.
Another Shake Shack restaurant is expected to open before the end of the year on Bascom Avenue in San Jose, near the Campbell border.
