Unlike devoted fans, Shelley Duvall’s partner Dan Gilroy doesn’t consider her absence from the In Memoriam segment of the 76th Emmy Awards an insult.
In an interview with TMZ, Gilroy admitted that his exclusion may have been an oversight and said he was not disappointed by the omission.
Fans had rallied around the late Duvall, whose work on Tales and Legends by Shelley Duvall And Shelley Duvall’s Bedtime Stories earned him two Primetime Emmy nominations, saying “his contributions deserve to be honored.”
Other recently deceased artists not featured in the montage include Chita Rivera, Tyler Christopher and Johnny Wactor. While Gilroy told TMZ he appreciates the outpouring of support from fans in this instance, he doesn’t want them to be too upset.

Notable stars featured in the segment include Bob Newhart, Carl Weathers, Donald Sutherland, Phil Donahue and James Earl Jones, the last of whom passed away last Monday (Sept. 9). Gilroy praised the segment, particularly Jelly Roll’s performance of “I Am Not Okay.”
Emmys executive producer Jesse Collins praised Jelly Roll’s performance as “very brave” and “phenomenal” in an interview with Variety after the show.
“He was a different artist to perform on that show. And he wore a blazer!” Collins added. “That’s probably the first time he’s ever worn a blazer in his entire life. And no hat. He was very specific about not wearing a hat.”
