Six newer books with Iowa City ties include ‘Olga Dies Dreaming,’

A novel by an Iowa Writers’ Workshop graduate that is being adapted for Hulu. A book revisiting the story of professor Jean Jew, who faced sexual harassment from her colleagues at the University of Iowa. A children’s book that empowers kids to make their own decisions.

Saturday is World Book and Copyright Day, as organized through UNESCO.

To celebrate, here are six books from authors with Iowa City ties or that have Iowa City connections that have been published in 2022.

‘Olga Dies Dreaming’ by Xochitl Gonzalez

“Olga Dies Dreaming” was greenlit by Hulu for a pilot back in April 2021, nine months before it was even published.

The novel follows Olga, a wedding planner in New York grappling with social ambitions amid love, the return of an absentee mother and her brother’s political career, all set in the months surrounding Hurricane Maria. “Olga Dies Dreaming” explores corruption, cultural identity and family.
