“Mr. Pommel Horse” can now count Elmo among his fans.
If you’ve suddenly become a fan of Olympic champion and pommel horse specialist Stephen Nedoroscik after his medal-winning routines, you’re not alone. Elmo has you covered.
Elmo gave Nedoroscik a shoutout on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Elmo wants to be a specialist too!”
The furry red puppet said he might be a laughter specialist or a monster hugger specialist. Neoroscik’s response?
“Elmo, the good thing about specializing in something is that you get to decide,” he wrote to X. “I think you’ll be a great specialist in whatever you choose!”

The Worcester native (Nedoroscik, not Elmo) became an overnight sensation after his performance on the pommel horse in the men’s gymnastics all-around finals. His performance earned the U.S. team a bronze medal. Nedoroscik also won bronze for the individual pommel horse competition.
Nedoroscik was dubbed “Mr. Pommel Horse” after his performances went viral. He became so recognizable within days that USA Gymnastics posted a photo of his glasses on a chalkboard with the caption “you know what time it is.”
