Stray bullet hits 3-year-old boy during attempted armed robbery: police

A 3-year-old boy was hit by a stray bullet during an attempted armed robbery Saturday afternoon in the Little Italy neighborhood on the Near West Side, according to Chicago police.

A 20-year-old man was in a parking lot in the 1000 block of West 14th Street around 4:50 p.m. when an unknown armed man pulled out a gun and demanded his property, police said. The shooter fired into the air, hitting the boy who was in a nearby apartment.

The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition and suffered a gunshot wound to the ear, police said. The 20-year-old man was not injured.

Police said no suspects were in custody and they were investigating.
