Subzero temperatures attack commuters

Subzero wind chills hit commuters Thursday morning as weather officials said temperatures would be between 10 and 20 degrees below freezing throughout the morning.

Officials said there was a limited risk of excessive cold Thursday morning for parts of north-central and northeastern Illinois, as well as northwest Indiana.

Current morning temperatures at O’Hare International Airport are mostly cloudy at 5 degrees with a wind chill of minus 15 degrees. At Midway Airport, conditions are the same, with a temperature of 6 degrees with a wind chill of -14 degrees, officials said.

Officials also said a dusting of snow was expected Thursday afternoon near U.S. Highway 24 and warned that driving conditions could be slippery in that area.
