Beachgoers at Seaford Beach called 999 this morning after discovering the body of a man on the shore.
The discovery triggered a major response from emergency services, including the coastguard, police and paramedics who blocked off the scene using blankets.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services were called to Seaford Beach at around 11.30am this morning after the body of a man was found on the beach.
“Investigations are underway, in collaboration with partner agencies, to identify the man and establish the full circumstances of the situation.”
Police said the beach would likely remain closed for some time and officers would remain on site throughout the day.
The spokesperson added: “The beach is likely to remain closed for some time while this unfolds and we thank the public for their patience and understanding.
“No additional information is available at this time.”
