Taylor Swift has officially spoken out about the attempted terrorist attack at her home in Vienna, Austria. Tour of the eras shows.
The pop star, who had to cancel her three-day stint at the Austrian capital’s Ernst Happel Stadium on August 8, 9 and 10, posted a statement on Instagram on Wednesday (August 7). Along with a carousel of tour highlights, Swift praised her team and performers in the caption for their hard work during the tour, before turning to more serious matters regarding Vienna.
“The reason for these cancellations has filled me with a new sense of fear and an overwhelming sense of guilt, as so many people had planned to come to these concerts,” the 14-time Grammy winner told fans.
Swift went on to reveal the reason for her silence. “I’m going to be very clear: I’m not going to talk about something in public if I think it might provoke those who would want to hurt the fans who come to my shows. In cases like this, ‘silence’ is actually a sign of restraint,” she said.
While the “Fortnight” singer turned off comments on her post, fans had mostly the same reactions to the 34-year-old singer’s statement on X (formerly known as Twitter). “I hope every single person who criticized Taylor for not talking about Vienna is feeling incredibly guilty right now,” one Swiftie fan said. Another fan noted, “Taylor deserves a huge apology from everyone who said a mean word about her regarding what happened in Vienna,” while a third agreed, saying, “I really think some of you guys hurt Taylor’s feelings by yelling about how she didn’t care about the Vienna shows.”
Fortunately, the Vienna attack was foiled when two suspects were arrested, according to ABC News and Austrian media Crown JournalA 19-year-old Austrian citizen and another unidentified person were arrested following a raid on the teenager’s home, where they discovered various chemicals and substances.
Swift is currently on hiatus following her European leg of the tour and is expected to return to Tour of the eras Thursday, October 18th in Miami, FL at Hard Rock Stadium.
