A new training program out of St. Joe’s University is trying to improve how Pa. first responders treat people who use opioids.

• The CDC gave the program $1.2 million to start, and just cleared another $650k for expansion. The training also touches on self care for officers, which can help them relate to those in recovery.

Courtenay Harris Bond sat in on a recent session in Philly, where correctional officers learned tips on getting overdose survivors to accept help.

For teenagers in the city who haven’t secured a summer job or headed off to camp, what can you do that doesn’t cost money you don’t have?

• A lot, actually. While it’s easy to spend a day lounging by one of Philly’s public pools, there are plenty of free activities designed to help teens explore the city and learn skills they might not teach in schools.
