A 17-year-old boy has been charged in the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old woman in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side on Thursday, Chicago police said.
The teen turned himself in to police around 10 p.m. Thursday in the 7000 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue and was identified as the person who fatally shot the victim hours earlier at a residence in the 6800 block of South Cornell Avenue, police said.
Tatanisha Jackson was inside her residence in the 6800 block of South Cornell Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday when a 17-year-old boy pulled out a gun and shot her, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Jackson was shot four times in the head and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Police said they recovered a firearm at the scene.
A police spokesman declined to elaborate on Jackson’s relationship with the boy. A relative of Jackson declined to comment.
A detention hearing was scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
