Ten Hag takes active role in United’s search for new back-up keeper

Erik ten Hag is taking an ‘active’ role in Manchester United’s attempts to sign a new back-up goalkeeper this summer, according to reports.

I can’t blame the manager for being unconvinced by Tom Heaton and we could definitely do with a back-up keeper, who can play out from the back with a decent standard of distribution.

United let Dean Henderson go on loan this summer after the English shot-stopper became frustrated by the lack of game time he was getting at Old Trafford. You get the impression from one of his recent interviews that Henderson was made false promises by a previous manager.

The Sun claims Ten Hag has taken an ‘active role’ in United’s search for a back-up keeper.

I think the manager should have an active role in multiple transfers, especially if he feels he can speed up the process. This may also suggest that Ten Hag is running out of patience with United’s board incredibly slow to deliver this summer.

SN’s verdict

United need a new back-up goalkeeper because I’m not convinced Ten Hag will show the same loyalty to De Gea as previous managers.

Furthermore, Heaton is not someone I trust between the posts, if the manager decides to switch things up throughout the season.

Not even for cup games because I want to see United win a trophy for the first time in six years.

But who is out there?
