What is a GV70? A GV70 is a compact luxury electric vehicle (EV) built at the Montgomery, Alabama, assembly plant and sold in North America by Genesis. The 2024 Genesis Electrified GV70 features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain using a 77.4 kWh battery pack. The front and rear electric motors are each rated at 160 kW, producing a combined 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.
Standard features on the Genesis Electrified GV70 include dual electric motors, a single-speed automatic transmission, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, an integrated navigation system, seat-mounted side airbags, roof curtain airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, airbag occupancy sensors, automatic climate control, and many other features to keep you safe.
This week, Genesis sent me a 2024 GV70 Prestige all-wheel-drive electric SUV for a test drive and evaluation. The base price on the window of this Prestige edition is $66,450. Options on the EV test SUV include the Cardiff special paint for $575 and the Prestige package for $6,800. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), including the $1,195 destination charge, is $75,020.
After adding state and local sales taxes, as well as DMV and dealer fees, the total purchase price, out the door and into your garage, comes to $84,398. At nearly $85,000, this 2024 Genesis GV70 falls squarely into the luxury price range of $75,000 to $100,000.
Genesis being the luxury vehicle sales division of Hyundai Motor Group, it manufactures many premium and luxury models that are gasoline, hybrid, or fully electric. This GV70 is an electric SUV and it gets 91 MPGe in combined driving. It can charge the battery in 7.9 hours on a 240-volt Level II home charger and can travel up to 236 miles on a full charge.
Today, luxury is about value, not ownership, and Genesis adds plenty of value to the Prestige Edition. It starts with full Nappa leather seating surfaces, a leatherette-wrapped upper instrument panel, a microfiber suede headliner, a 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, active noise control, heated second-row seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, manual rear door sunshades and a Lexicon premium audio system for pure, clean and more dynamic sound with the 16-speaker Lexicon system, which applies quantum logic surround sound for an immersive audio experience, with a subwoofer mounted under each front seat for a full and richer 3D sensory sound experience.
The Advanced Safety Package includes: Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Driver Attention Alert, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, a Blind-Spot View Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Park Distance Assist, Reverse Parking Collision Assist, a rearview camera, Safe Exit Assist and an Advanced Rear Occupant Warning System.
Technology and connectivity include a 14.5-inch navigation system with Sirius XM HD Satellite Radio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Genesis Connected Services, a wireless phone charger, Genesis Digital Key and in-car fingerprint authentication.
Genesis offers one of the best new vehicle warranty packages available. All Genesis electric vehicles come with a 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle warranty, a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, a 10-year/100,000-mile electric vehicle system warranty, and a 7-year/unlimited mileage anti-perforation warranty. Because it’s built in America and priced under $80,000, it’s eligible for the $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit, helping to lower the total purchase price for many buyers.
