The exact spot where Jay Slater plunged to his death is seen for the first time

The exact spot where Jay Slater plunged to his death has been pinpointed for the first time thanks to a team of sniffer dogs. Jay was found last Monday, exactly four weeks after he went missing in Tenerife, Canary Islands.

Jay, 19, was trying to walk back to his holiday home after an 11-hour trek over rocky and unforgiving terrain when he fell. The scene of the teenager’s tragic fall was found by the Signi Zoekhonden team who visited the scene with their dog Flex last Thursday.

The three-person team and Flex went on a five-hour hike into the remote Barranco Juan Lopez valley. Signi Zoekhonden shared footage on Facebook showing the area where Jay fell and was found 300 meters down the ravine.

They said: “The team with the dogs picked up Jay’s tracks in the Airbnb he had left and in the valley where the last phone survey was located, just before the phone went empty. At noon, the dogs rested to avoid the high temperatures. During this break, the message arrived that a body had been found. It is still unknown where.”

They added: “The changed goal was now to capture as much of Jay’s route as possible, so that Jay’s family could gain more insight into his final journey that was too much for them to bear. The next day, a second dog, Signi’s Royce, again led the search team to the helicopter site.

“On the third day of the search, the third dog, Signi’s Flex, managed to enter the scene of the accident. A difficult 2.5-hour walk was made through rocky terrain with lots of weeds, bushes and cacti.” Signi Zoekhonden’s statement said: “By the time Flex had clearly reached the final destination, the area and the road leading to it were checked by the drone (National DroneTeam).

“The team was spared the steep descent as the drone captured the final point 20 meters away from them. The search team immediately began their return journey to be able to endure the most intense heat for the shortest time possible. The drone footage and final coordinates were shown to the family in the evening, which was an emotional moment.
