The MBTA is asking for help from its riders as it continues development of an app to track service across the system in real time.

A preview of the app – MBTA Go – went live in July, but the transit agency is now urging the public to download the beta version of the app while continuing to test the app.

In a statement released in July, MBTA communications chief Gabrielle Mondestin said T general manager Phil Eng had “challenged the team to develop a mobile app that provides real-time information to users, with the aim of improving their daily travel experience and enabling them to make better informed decisions regarding their trip.

According to the T’s webpage dedicated to the app, the app’s goal is to provide riders with “reliable, real-time information about MBTA service.”

Interested riders should first download the TestFlight app.

“After you agree to the terms and conditions, the screen will ask you to ‘redeem’ a code,” the MBTA said. “Instead, come back to this site and click the button under step 3. This will automatically load the MBTA Go beta app on your phone.”

Riders must have an iPhone running iOS 17+ to participate in MBTA Go testing, but the agency said it is currently working on an Android version.

“In addition to testing the app, you can share your experience with us,” the T wrote on its website. “Your feedback helps us resolve issues, make improvements, and prioritize what we work on next. »
