The National Weather Service in Buffalo confirmed that a second tornado touched down in the Rochester area Monday afternoon, amid severe thunderstorms and a tornado in Canandaigua that tore through the area.
The tornado touched down in Pavilion, Genesee County, and was rated EF-0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with maximum wind speeds of 85 mph, according to the weather service. It touched down at 3:50 p.m. and remained on the ground for two minutes, traveling three-quarters of a mile, according to data released Wednesday. The tornado was 75 yards wide.
The tornado damaged numerous trees, breaking trunks and branches, and uprooted several others. No damage was reported to buildings, according to the weather service.
Also Monday, another EF-0 tornado tore through Canandaigua in Ontario County.
The tornado, with peak winds of 75 mph (120 km/h), touched down at 4:48 p.m. Monday and remained on the ground for two minutes, traveling 0.7 miles (1.1 km), according to data released Tuesday afternoon. The tornado’s path was 250 feet (75 meters) wide.
The tornado damaged trees along the north shore of Canandaigua Lake, from Kershaw Park to a subdivision just east of the park and to the Canandaigua Country Club, according to the weather service. High winds snapped some trees and uprooted others. Aluminum shingles, siding and other items were damaged on some homes. Trees and power poles were also damaged along Eastern Boulevard.
No injuries or deaths were reported in connection with either tornado.
